While the whole era chases catchier tunes and louder sounds, Greek composer Antonis Hatzimichalis has taken a different path—he nourishes his sound with introspection, waters his melodies with compassion, and has ultimately given us this album titled Music for the Deprived.

This is not a record that courts the ear, but a work in dialogue with the soul. Six tracks spanning forty-two minutes, Madebygrey paints on the delicate canvas of chamber prog, letting the cello's melancholy, the trombone's desolation, and the violin's plaintiveness unfold slowly within a post-rock framework. This is not music that demands to be "understood"—it needs no lyrics, for it speaks of realms beyond language: of loss, of alienation, of confronting oneself in the dead of night.

The fourteen-minute "May Your Coffee Kick in Before Reality Does" is the most mesmerizing passage—layers of instruments stacking upon one another, then slowly crumbling apart, like a soul suspended between wakefulness and dream. Meanwhile, "Beginner's Guide to Nothingness" dissects the void with near-brutal honesty, laying it bare for all to see.

Hatzimichalis once compared his creative process to "a train with no destination"—you grow weary, stiff, longing to get off, yet hesitate at the scenery outside the window, surrendering yourself to the journey. This, too, is what Music for the Deprived offers: it is not background music for escaping reality, but rather something that pins you to reality's chair, forcing you to confront those emotions etched deep within.

In this age of information overload yet emotional starvation, this album offers a sanctuary for all the "deprived"—it is not an answer, but it lets you know that you are not the only one asking questions in the dark.
